Shifting of tools.

So in Isaac Asmiov's book Foundation, one of the characters says that you can identify a people by the tools that they use.

In the last few years, the tools we need to learn are no longer the tools to seek out information, but to filter it.  What does that say about us?  How do we deal with each other when to succeed we need to learn to ignore each other?

Would we be nicer?

Do you think people would be nicer to one another if they knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that the person walking past them on the street would at some time or another be actively attempting to make their life better or safer?

Well, why can't they?
